to beat president obama. a look at the war in afghanistan. now the longest war. how do we get out? does obama's policy differ from president bush's and what is the effect for generations to come? joe and mika and willie join in the conversation later this hour. we begin with the debt crisis. they are trying to make a deal on the deficit. houses of congress are rolling out separate compromises to safe off a default. harry reid is meeting with mitch mcconnell to craft a solution to appeal to both parties. according to reports, this would do the following. it would allow the debt ceiling to be raised three times for a total of $2.5 trillion. in exchange, some $1.5 trillion in spending cuts would be enacted. the plan would be established to identify new deficit cuts. proposal, already, getting a lukewarm response from the fellow republicans. among them, the freshman snar mark arubio and tom coburn. take a listen. >> it gives the president the ability to raise the debt limit. the debt limit isn't the problem. the problem is the debt. the plan, as outlined to me isn't a credible solution. >>

of afghanistan. >> that's right. we begin there where afghan president hamid karzai's half brother was found shot to death at his home. ahmed wali karzai was the provenÇal council chief of kandahar. he suffered gunshot wounds to his head and chest according to hospital officials. a spokesman for kandahar's government said a guard killed karzai. the taliban says -- >> we've seen the worst so far. excessive heat warnings and advisories posted in 23 states. the heat in many areas could reach 115 degrees. the heat wave is being blamed for one death in madison county, illinois. in oklahoma it was so hot, that part of a highway buckled. look at that. motorist was hospitalized after his bike hit the buckled pavement. in arkansas several communities have opened cooling centers. good rule of thumb in this heat whatever you're doing don't overdo it. >> if you're going to go outside in heat like this better be drinking a lot of water before you come out. make sure you have some substance in your stomach or you might be going to the hospital. >> it was hard to stay focused because it was so hot out. >> dehy

. that war was cost us almost $2 trillion. the afghanistan and iraq war is winding down. office management of budget office has looked at this and said if you take a trillion dollars and lower the debt and allow us to take additional $200 billion in interest savings, that is what we have in our bill. it's all been done by non-partisan congressional budget office. i can't imagine the fact they have voted for it, 230 republicans voted for that in the budget. 40 republicans voted for it. why is it something suddenly they don't want? (question is inaudible). >> your math is terrific. we got 60. the issue has been for a week or so a trigger. yes, the joint committee doesn't come up with a result. what should happen. we've been willing to say that we're happy if we don't arrive at the budget goals with the joint committee that certain things should happen. we've been willing to say that there could be a sequestration as long as it included revenues. it's unfair to make it a spending bill when we have billionaires and millionaires and corporate jets and yachts. the american people agree with us.

service members have been killed in two separate attacks in eastern afghanistan. three troops died of a roadside bomb went off. fourth soldier died in a separate insurgent attack. it's not clear if any of the troops were americans. the latest round of violence brings the death toll to nine coalition troops within the last month. another fox news alert, the mexican navy says it plans to extend the search for seven missing u.s. tourists today. they disappeared early yesterday when a fishing boat capsized in the gulf of california at least one of the 27 americans on board was killed. the boat carrying a total of 44 passengers and crew members appears to have been hit by two massive waves. there's still hope they could be alive. witnesses report some had been wearing life jackets. in just about two hours, 2 1/2 hours, the jury will resume deliberations in the casey anthony murder trial. the jury got the case yesterday afternoon after hearing a final rebuttal from prosecutors arguing that anthony killed her daughter caylee. >> as the facts and circumstances changed over the course of ti

overnight. a bomb blast in eastern afghanistan leaves three nato service members dead. at this hour, the victim's nationalities are being withheld. this comes on the heels of a weekend attack that left another nato soldier dead, killed by a man dressed in an afghan army uniform. it happened when david petraeus handed over control. it shows petraeus transferring power to lieutenant general john allen. in september, petraeus will become director of the c.i.a. and another bus tour crashing. this one leaving at least two people dead. it happened about 55 miles south of rochester, new york. the bus was on its way from washington, d.c. to niagara falls when the driver lost control, veered down a grassy embankment into the woods. 35 passengers are hurt. four of them are in critical condition. early reports indicate a tire blowout might have caused that crash. and the video is incredible and horrifying at the same time. a look at what happened, a stage collapse at a cheap trick concert and it was all caught on camera. it happened during a thunderstorm at the ottawa blues fest. thousands of
